Myanmar’s Magway and Meiktila air force bases attacked

Two air force bases in central Myanmar were attacked today as violence continues in the country after the military coup on February 1.

Three explosions rocked the Magway air force base, approximately 90 miles west of Naypyitaw, the capital, in the early hours of this morning, according to the Delta News Agency.

Later five rockets were launched at the Meiktila base to the northeast of Magway, according to local media reports. Meiktila is one of the country’s biggest military air bases and is located near the Myanmar air force’s central command.

The military has not announced whether there were any casualties. Security checks on the roads around the bases have been stepped up.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for either attack, though they
