President Biden insisted that “America is on the move again” after staring into the abyss of insurrection and the pandemic, as he sought to reassure blue-collar workers that his multi-trillion dollar renewal plans would create millions of jobs and win the future.

In his first presidential address to Congress on the eve of 100 days in office, Biden detailed a third gigantic spending proposal, the $1.8 trillion American Families Plan to provide state-funded parental, medical and compassionate leave, free early childhood provision, two years of free college and tax relief for childcare.

It follows the $1.9 trillion pandemic relief act and $2.3 trillion infrastructure proposal that marks an attempt to revive tax-and-spend government after decades of the state being minimised and taxes pared back.
